Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri to be handed £5m bonus after steering Foxes to historic Premier league title

Claudio Ranieri is to be handsomely rewarded for his remarkable effortsClaudio Ranieri is in line for a huge £5million bonus after winning the Premier League title.
Ranieri will land a substantial reward for guiding Leicester to the first top-flight crown in their 132-year history, as part of an agreement written into his contract by agent Steve Kutner.
The 64-year-old signed a three-year deal in July with the deal loaded with incentives and bonuses dependent on success, with the windfall guaranteed after his remarkable achievements this season.
Leicester were initially targeting survival as the minimum requirement but assured their place in the Champions League for next season weeks ago.
However, Leicester’s players are not expected to land any additional bonuses for winning the title, as their payment scheme was agreed before a ball was kicked.
It is understood that a £6.5million pot will be shared among the squad for ending the campaign 12th or above, but no additional money will be paid out for a higher-placed finish.
Premier League rules dictate that no amendments to the bonus scheme can be made during the course of the season.
Leicester are also set to offer Ranieri a new deal later this month, doubling his salary to around £3million a year.
Ranieri is expected to commit his future to the East Midlanders, despite interest from the Italy national team and abroad.
He said: “It's important to improve our mentality, we are building a good team for the future, we are building the foundation.
“For the first time in their lives now they must work with the pressure of being able to win something. All the media attention is good, that is the way the big names of football are working under pressure.
“In the next year I'd like them to be used to staying on the top of the league and to compete in Europe and fight for something bigger, bigger, bigger. This is the ambition, I know it is difficult, this is the target, every time a little higher.”
