Spokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, who confirmed this in a statement yesterday, disclosed their names as: Jamilu Monday, 29; Dantala Musa, 25; Ihechi Favour, 20; and Bright Chimezie, 18.
He noted that while two suspects were intercepted in a minibus around Bishop’s Court, Owerri, the state capital, two others persons were nabbed at Naze Junction, in Owerri North, Local Council of the state.
Okoye said: “On Monday, February 5, at about 9:00 p.m., eagle-eyed operatives of the RRS, while on intelligence-led stop and search, along Bishop’s Court Road, Owerri, intercepted a minibus with registration number KED 364XA and arrested two suspects, who were unlawfully in possession of one locally-made cut-to-size gun and 10 rounds of live cartridges neatly concealed in their bag.
“Similarly, operatives of the command’s Tactical Squad, on the same day, nabbed two suspects, who were unlawfully in possession of two fabricated guns, an axe, and a sharp iron object, while on intensive stop and search operation at Naze Junction, along Aba road.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court with the appropriate criminal charge, upon completion of a comprehensive investigation.” Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has assured he would tackle all forms of violent crimes and criminality in the state.
While commending the operatives for arresting the suspects, he urged them to sustain the tempo. He also encouraged all “well-meaning residents” of Imo State to report any suspicious person seen, or clandestine activity observed to the nearest police station.
