Goodluck Jonathan |
President Goodluck Jonathan has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government of running a government of lies and propaganda.
Jonathan made the allegation when one of the contenders for the office of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, and his campaign team, visited him in his office in Abuja.
He said that the PDP did well while in office from May 29, 1999 till May 29, 2015 before it was defeated by the APC.
The former President said that till date, the APC administration has nothing to show as an achievement, but rather, it has been ruling through lies and the deployment of hi-tech propaganda to cover up its misrule.
Jonathan said: “The PDP administration for 16 did well and will continue to do well but this administration has done nothing, the administration is full of lies and propaganda.”
According to him, the PDP revived the power sector, recalling that a former governor, who is now a minister in the APC government, had once said that any serious government should be able to fix power within six months, but, “unfortunately, this government has not been able to achieve this after being in power for more than two years.”
Jonathan said that all hope was not lost as the PDP would put its house in order to return to power in 2019 since Nigerians have seen the differences between the APC and the PDP.
He continued: “With the rate at which people are coming around to associate with a party that lost elections, it shows that the people still believe in the PDP; with the numbers and calibre of the people coming out to vie for the seat of the national chairman and offices of our party, it shows that our party still has another chance.
“We need a national chairman who will be courageous enough to call the President to order if we win the Presidency and the President is going astray, he must not be someone when the party takes position on issues, he will change,” he said.
In his remarks, Adeniran explained that initially he was not interested in the race, but the need to rebuild and reposition the party ahead of the 2019 general elections prompted him to join the contest.
