President Muhammadu Buhari has been berated for occupying the office of the Minister of Petroleum.
A legal practitioner, Emmanuel Anene, said the decision of the president was a breach of Nigeria’s Constitution.
Featuring on Channels Television on Friday, Anene said Buhari became Petroleum Minister by “fiat.”
“The administration brought in the Whistle-Blowing policy, but has failed in putting it through the National Assembly for approval”, he said.
“The government said they are fighting corruption. Any offence involving dishonesty is corruption. Nepotism is corruption; favouritism is corruption.
“If you ambush due process of law, that is corruption. If you arm-twist the system for your own selfish gain that is corruption.
“Mr President made himself the Minister of Petroleum by fiat. He did not submit himself to the NASS for clearance that is a breach of the constitutional provision.
“When they came on board, we heard of the Dasukigate. Today, Dasuki is being prosecuted; he has taken his bail to the Supreme Court…ordinary bail”, Anene lamented.
