Fela Anikulapo Kuti, undoubtedly was one of the greatest musicians of all time. My love for Fela's music started very early. As a child growing up in the 70s in Warri, Delta State-Nigeria, I use to visit and give a helping hand to my big friend Fid Peters the Tailor who had a shop opposite my house. He was a huge fan of Fela and had a lot of his albums-Vinyl. There I will listen to Fela's songs, I was captivated with his unique genre-Afro Beat., his gift to the world. 'Water No Get Enemy' was one of my many favourites, I am always blown away whenever I listen to it, I just cant get enough of it. When he died on August 2, 1997, I felt pain in my heart, and I paid tribute to him in the letter column of TELL Magazine. He was a genius and he sang our problems to us, A black patriot, he spoke the bitter truth about Nigeria. In his Album, Confusion Break Bone(CBB), he sang:''
My people dey say Nigeria done deyBut me as I see amI no say, Nigeria go-go downOur country go dey make-ee moneyMy people of country no see money".
Look at Nigeria today! He saw the future. A great man indeed! Below is a comment by a fan on YouTube and I couldn't agree less with him:
"Prophets of goodwill from The Almighty God come in many disguises on this earth and I think that,FELA is just one of them for which the world is thankful to God in Christ amen.
Ecclesiastes
7:20 For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin.
Also In the Holy Bible Jesus says, he who is without sin should cast the first stone.
The Holy Bible also says,
The earth is God's and it's fullness thereof.
Meaning; GOD OWNS THIS WORLD NOT SATAN".
May his soul continue to rest in peace.
