Armed men injure DPO, four policemen in Anambra

 Crime-scene
Armed men stormed the Ogidi Police Station, Idemili North Local Government Council, Anambra State on Sunday and attacked and injured the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Hassan Musa and four other police officers.
The critically injured policemen are said to be receiving treatment at various hospitals in the state. It was learnt that the armed men stormed the station around 9.00 p.m., disarmed the policemen at the gate and went straight for the DPO.
An eyewitness said the assailants, who were armed with axes and machetes, attacked the DPO, inflicted deep cuts on his shoulder and hand. Four other policemen were also similarly attacked.

The DPO is currently in an undisclosed hospital. But one of the attackers was shot in the leg, when the other policemen nearby rallied in a counter-attack. In a confessional statement, the apprehended attacker said they were members of the newly formed Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB from Asaba, Delta State and that they came to look for arms in the police armoury.
The Anambra State Command spokesperson could not be reached for a comment as her number could not be reached.Meanwhile, the absence of representatives of the Nigeria Army, MASSOB, Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO) at the investigative hearing constituted by the House of Representatives Committee on Army to look into allegations of killings in Ogoniland stalled the proceedings of the panel.
The CLO that petitioned the lower legislative chamber did not turn up to defend its allegations, just as the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and the MASSOB also failed to appear before the committee to justify their allegations that the army killed unarmed IPOB members during the pro-Biafra commemoration events in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The representative of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Augustine Obiekwe, who turned up for the hearing, said the corps received the invitation from the committee only last Thursday, so he would not be able to make any submission.
To this, the Committee Chairman said: “You are a security agent, so, you ought to know what happened.”When called upon to make submissions on behalf of the Police, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Foluso Adebanjo, who was present, said: “I represent the Inspector-General, unfortunately, I didn’t get a copy of the petition.”
The Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara had while opening the event, stated that the hearing was meant to allow for greater interrogation and analysis of the issues and clarification of matters so that the House would be able to take further legislative action.
