Inspector General of Police,
IGP, Ibrahim Idris has restated the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force
to continue to train and retrain men and officers of the force
in conformity with the international best practices.
Just as he advised police officers to
see themselves as part of the community and not apart from the
community, in order to create an harmonious working relationship with
the member of the public. Idris disclosed this while paying
a condolence visit to the family of the late ex-police boss Etim Inyang,
who passed on recently, in Lagos yesterday.
Represented by the DIG in charge
of Training and Development Emmanuel Inyang, he described the former
police boss as a rare breed which the force is lucky to have as its
former head.
The DIG while reading from a
condolence letter signed by the IGP and presented to the widow, Mrs Mary
Inyang, stated that the entire police family received the news of his
death with shock and would have wished he lived longer in order for
the police force to continue to tap from his numerous wealth of
experience.
“With the demise of Rtd IGP
Inyang, Nigeria has lost one of her best people. He was one of the best
cop ever produced and who served meritoriously while in office as IGP.

“There is no doubt his exit is an irreparable loss to the Nigerian Police Force and the country as a whole.
“He will be remembered for his
honesty, humility and selfless service to his father land, " he
added. Responding on behalf of the family Barrister Inyang Etim
Inyang, appreciates the overwhelming support of the federal government
and the IGP in particular, which he described as sowing a seed which
will be bountifully reaped.
“This is the first time an individual
will be sending three different condolences letter to the family of a
late ex police boss. "The first condolence message
was relieved when we notify the IGP of the passing on of our patriarch.
The second was received following our invitation letter providing him
with details of the obsequies and the third one is the one read here.
“We express our sincere gratitude
and appreciation for the support shown so far from different section of
the country. This goes in a long way of portraying the police force as a
unit that should be cherished and respected,” he added.
Accompanying the IGP for the visit is
the AIG in charge of Zone 2 command Abdulmajid Ali, Lagos State
Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni, Commissioner of police Airport
Command Victor Onofiok.
